PERSISTENT RESERVATIO N IN Read Reservations Descriptor-Data Format

Generation
The value in this field is a 32-bit counter in the device server that is incremented
each t ime a P ERSISTE NT RESERVATION OUT command request s a Register, Clea r,
Pre-e mpt, or Pre -empt and Clea r operat ion. Note that PERSISTENT RESERVATI ON
IN com mands do not increment the counter, nor do PERSISTENT RESERVATION
OUT commands that perform a Reserve or Release servi ce action, or by a PERSIS-
TENT RESERVATION OUT command that is not done due to an error or a reservation
confl ict. The va lue in t he Gen erat ion f ield is set t o 0 as par t of the pow er on or reset
processes.
The value in the Generation field allows the application client that examines the value
to verify that the configuration of the initiators attached to a logical unit has not been
modified by another application client without any notification of the application cli-
ent doing the exam ination.

Length
This fi eld contains the count of the number of bytes of Reservation descri ptors
(byt es 8 ). Note that th is field c ontains the number of bytes regardl ess of th e val-
ue prescribed by the Al location Length field in the comm ands CDB.

One Reservation descriptor is reported for each unique persistent reservation on the
logical unit when the PERSISTENT RESERVATION IN command has indicated a Read
Reservations action. Table 5-118 a nd Table 5-115 detail the conten ts of each Res-
ervation Descriptors field.
