SCS I Description
M axtor Atlas 10K III 5-41
SCSI refers to the drives operational paramet ers as its mode parameters. SCSI groups the
mode parameters by function into a set of data structures referred to as mode pages. The
MODE SE LECT (6) command all o ws th e ini tiato r to m o dify so m e o f these m o d e
pages and thereby control some of the drives op erat ional c harac teristic s. The Save
Page (SP) option in the Comm and Descriptor Block makes the changes permanent.
The new mo de parameters are t hen stored in the drives non-volatile memory. The
MOD E SELECT CDB is described in Table 5-51 and a description of the fields in
Tab l e 5-52.

Page Format. The drive ignores the content of this field and produc-
es a mode param eter lis t that contains a m ode header optionally
foll ow ed by a sector descri ptor and one or more pages that con-
form to the format shown here.
SP
Save Page s. When SP = 0, t he dr ive per forms t he sp ecifi ed MODE
SELECT opera tion and does not sa ve any pages. When SP = 1, the
drive performs the specified operation and stores all savable pages,
(PS =1 on MODE SENSE return) including any sent during the data-
out buff er transfer . The changes made when SP = 1 become per-
manent changes to the drive s SCSI setup.
Parameter List Length This fi eld tells the dri ve how many bytes of Mode Parameter s to
fetc h in t he data-out buffer transfer. A CHECK CONDITION status
is returned if t his value truncates a page.
