Enclosure Problems

Astra Web GUI displays yellow !s red Xs in Tree View to identify components that need attention.

When a yellow ! appears over a Subsystem in Tree View, click on the Enclosure icon. The Enclosure screen will display (below).

Overheating

Overheating is a potentially serious condition because the excessively high temperatures can lead to disk drive failure and controller malfunction.

Overheating usually results from:

Fan failure

Poor air circulation around the enclosure

Astra Web GUI reports failed fans along with elevated temperature. On Astra ES, there are two kinds of fans:

Power supply, 2 fans each

Cooling units, 1 fan each

If a power supply fan fails, you must replace the power supply. If a cooling unit fan fails, you can remove the cooling unit and replace only the fan itself.

No tools are required for either procedure.

Air circulation around the Astra ES enclosure may be a more complex problem. Use the thermometer icons to help you locate the specific hot spot. Check for these conditions:

Accumulated dust or objects blocking the fans

Less than a minimum of 5 inches (13 cm) space between the back of the Astra ES and the wall or other object

Ambient temperature above 95F (35C) where the Astra ES is operating

To cool down a Astra ES:

Correct any problems identified above

Power it down and let it sit for an hour or longer
