Cleaning the Printer
During the printing process, particles of paper, toner, and dust
can accumulate inside the printer. Ove r time, this build-up can
cause print quality problems such as toner specks or smearing.
Your printer has a cleaning mode that can correct and prevent
these typ e s of pro blem s .
Cleaning the Outside of the Printer
Clean the printer cabinet with a soft lint-free cloth. You can
dam pen the cloth sligh tly w ith water, but be careful no t to let
any water drip on to th e printe r or inside of it.
CAUTION
: Cleaning the printer cabinet with cleaners
containing large amounts of alcohol, solvents, or other strong
substances can discolor or crack the cabinet.
Cleaning the Inside of the Printer
NOTE
:
While cleaning the inside of the printer, be careful not
to touch the transfer roller. Oil from your fingers can cause
print qu ality pro b le ms.

Turn the printer off and unplug the power cord, then wait a
few minutes for the printer to cool.

Using the handle, completely open the access door.
CAUTION
:
• Do no t to uc h the g ree n su rfa ce, th e O P C d r um, on the fr o n t
of each toner cartridge with your hands or any other
material. Use the handle on each cartridge in order to avoid
touching this area.
• Be careful not to scr atch the sur face of the p ap er transfer
belt.
• If you lea ve the access door open for mo r e tha n a fe w
minutes, the OPC drum can be exposed to light. This will
cause damage to the OPC d rum. C lose the access door
should the installation ne ed to be h alt ed fo r any reason.

Grasp the handles on each toner cartridge and pull to
remove the ca rtridg e s from the printer. Set them on a
clean flat surface.
CAUTION
: To prevent damage, do n o t ex p o se th e toner
cartridges to light for more than a few minutes. Cover them
with pape r to p r otect th e m if nece ssar y.

Look i n s ide the prin te r. Remove any dus t, pape r particles,
and spilled toner with a damp , soft lint-free cloth, or small
v acuum cleaner.
NOTE
: After clean ing , allow th e pr inter to dr y completely.

Look inside the p r inter on the right and then lo cate the
colors of the ton e r cartridg e s th at match the colors of the
slots.
