Troubleshooting Checklist

If the prin ter is no t working pr o p er ly, consult the follo wing
checklist. If the printe r do e s not p ass a step , fo llow th e
corr e s pond i ng tro u bl eshootin g suggesti ons.
Status Response
Make sure that the
On
Line/Continue
button
on the control panel is
green and “Ready” is
shown on the
SmartPanel program
window or the control
panel display (CLP-600N
only).
If the b utt on li gh t is of f, che ck the po w er co r d
connection. Check the power switch. Check the
power source by plugging the power cord into
another outlet.
If the b utt o n li gh t is red, check the display
message and go to “Understanding Display
Messages” on page 7.14.
Print a demo page to
ve rify tha t th e p rin te r is
feeding paper correctly.
See 2.7.
If a demo page does not print, check the paper
supply in the paper tray.
If the paper jams in the printer, go to “Clearing
Paper Jams” on page 7.4.
If an error message appears on the display, go
to “Understanding Display Messages” on
page 7.14.
Check the demo pa ge to
see if it is printed
correctly.
If there is a print quality problem, go to “Solving
Print Quality Problems” on page 7.12.
Prin t a shor t do c um en t
from a software
application to verify that
the computer and printer
are connected and are
commu nicating correctly.
If the page does not print, check the cable
connection b etween th e printer and the
computer.
Check the print queue or print spooler to see if
the printer has been paused.
Che ck the s oftwa re applicatio n to ensure that
you are using the proper printer driver and
communication port. If the page is interrupted
during printing, go to “Solving General Printing
Problems” on page 7.2.
