since there are many modems using the service, it is even more
imperative to have a unique name for your modem.
Understanding DNSThePinPoint‐EhastheabilitytoqueryDNSserversinorderto
translatedomainnamesintoIPaddresses.Thisallowsyouto
usedomainnamesinplaceofIPaddressesformostofthe
configurationoptionsrequiringIPaddresses.Thisisimportant
ifyourPinPoint‐Ewillneedtocontactanothermodemorother
devicethathasadomainnamebutanunknownordynamicIP
address(suchasanotherremotePinPoint‐EusingIP
Manager).
Configuring DNS
Generally,whenyourPinPoint‐EreceivesitsIPaddressfrom
Provideraspartoftheconnectionprocess,itwillalsoreceive
theDNSserverstouseforresolving(ortranslating)namesto
IPaddresseswhichitwillautomaticallyconfigureinthe
modemsettings.UnlessyourPinPoint‐Ewillbeusedona
networkwithothermodemsordeviceswhichhavenames
internaltothelocalnetworkorfrequentlychangingIP
addresses,theDNSserversprovidedbyProvidershouldbeall
youneed.
IfthePinPoint‐Ewillbecommunicatingwithadevicethathas
adomainnamebutchangesitsIPaddressfrequently(suchas
anotherAirLinkmodemusingIPManager)orisonanetwork
wheredevicesareaccessedbynamesratherthanIPaddresses,
youwillwanttoputinanalternateDNS(*DNSUSER)where
thatdomainisupdated,suchastheIPManagerserverthe
remotemodemisusingorthelistingofIPaddressestonames
iskept.
IfyouneedtomanuallyconfigureDNS,inAceManager,select
DNS.
