The following are the minimum computer requirements you need to set up and operate the MFC as a printer.

Use only a shield interface cable that is IEEE-1284 compliant, and that is less than 6 feet long (1.8 meters), or a USB cable.

Using a USB Cable to Connect the MFC to the PC (Using Windows® 98 Only)

Please find your Windows® 98 CD-ROM before you begin.

A USB cable is not included with your Brother machine. Before you can set up the USB interface, you must purchase a standard USB cable. Or, if you prefer to set up the bundled parallel cable, please see Using the Bundled Parallel Cable to connect the MFC to the PC, page 12-10.

1After you have set up the MFC and checked that it is working properly, make sure your MFC is turned on and your PC is turned off.
