CHAPTER 10 TROUBLESHOOTING

1. Pick-Up Assembly

Cause	Step	Checks
	1	Did the jam occur when the paper
		was picked up from the cassette?
Cassette	2	Is the cassette set in the copier
		correctly?
	3	Try a different cassette. Is the
		problem corrected?
Copy paper	4	Is the copy paper curled or wavy?

	5	Try Canon-recommended paper.
		Is the problem corrected?
DC controller	6	Does the pick-up roller of the
PCB, Pick-up		selected cassette holder rotate
switch		during copying operation?
Pick-up roller	7	Is the pick-up roller deformed or
		worn?
	8	Try manual copying. Does the
		main motor rotate?
Registration	9	Does the registration roller
roller drive		operate normally?

Registration	10	Is the registration roller or the
roller, vertical		vertical path roller deformed or
path roller		worn?
Copy paper	11	Try Canon-recommended paper.
		Is the problem corrected?

Pick-up roller

Results	Action
NO	Go to step 8.
NO	Set the cassette
	correctly.
YES	Check the inside of the
	cassette for foreign
	matter.
YES	Replace the copy paper;
	advise the user for the
	correct method of storing
	paper.
YES	Advise the user to use
	recommended paper.
NO	See “The pick-up
	operation fails.”
YES	Replace the pick-up
	roller.
NO	See “The pick-up
	operation fails.”
NO	See “The registration
	roller fails to rotate.”
YES	Replace the deformed or
	worn roller.
YES	Advise the user to use
	recommended paper.
NO	Check the pick-up roller
	for wear or deformation.
