10Run the system diagnostics to verify that the new processor operates correctly.

Processor VRMs

If you add a third and fourth processor, you must also install a voltage regulator module (VRM) for each processor.

Installing a VRM

CAUTION: Only trained service technicians are authorized to remove the system cover and access any of the components inside the system. See your Product Information Guide for complete information about safety precautions, working inside the computer, and protecting against electrostatic discharge.

1Turn off the system, including any attached peripherals, and disconnect the system from the electrical outlet.

2Open the system. See "Opening the System" on page 46.

3Remove the top cooling shroud. See "Removing the Cooling Shrouds" on page 49.

4Locate the two VRM sockets. See Figure 6-2.

5Press the ejectors on the socket down and out, as shown in Figure 3-13, to allow the VRM to be inserted into the socket.
