2.3 CONTROLLING
In this section we look at two controls you have over how the Star
LaserPrinter 4111handles and formats itspages: You can set values for the
PAPER FEED andLAYOUT parameters on the control panel. At the end of
this section we’ll also preview different ways to move the print position.
2.3.1 The PAPER FEED parameter
The PAPER FEED parameter letsyou specify both what kind of paper you
want and how the paper is fed.
Oneconvenient thing about alaser printer is that it doesn’tneed continuous
forms, sometimes called~bnfbki paper. Other printers feed in astack of
formswith pagesalljoined byperforations byhaving sprocketsengage
andpull along pinfeedholes punched along each sideof the paper. After it’s
printed you have to tear off the pinfeed-hole strips and then separate the
pages,
With the Star LaserPrinter 4111youcan print on avariety of ordinary cut
sheet pages.
Forthe Feeder value of this PAPER FEED parameter, you first enter either
multi-purpose tray, manual feed or cassette (option) to indicate where you
wantpaper fed from. The multi-purpose trayhandles various typesand sizes
ofpaper (Letter, Legal, A4, B5, Executive, OHP sheets, Labels,Envelopes).
Manualfeed meansyou feed each sheetby hand from the multi-purposetray.
The cassettetray automatically feeds single sheets, much like sheet feeders
on other typesof printers.
Thedefault papersizeis A4,you canspecifyother sizestoo.Adifferent-sizes
tray automatically selectsthat different paper size,
8.5 by 11 inchletter-size paper
8.5 by 14inch legal-size paper
B5 international (used in every country except North America)
