With the AC power cord connected as described in Chapter 3, Getting Started, and the computer turned off, it takes about 2.5 hours to bring a discharged battery up to full charge.

Battery LED

Check the Battery LED on the indicator panel to determine the status of the main battery. The following lights indicate the battery status:

Flashing orange

The battery charge is low. The AC power cord must

 

be connected to recharge the battery.

Orange

Indicates the AC power cord is connected and the

 

battery is being charged with the power off.

Green

Indicates the AC power cord is connected and the

 

battery is fully charged whether the power is on or off.

No light

Under any other conditions, the LED does not light.

Monitoring Battery Capacity

Battery capacity can be monitored by the Pop-up window when you are working in DOS or by MaxTime when you are in Windows.

Pop-up Window

The Pop-up window contains a bar gauge that shows how much power remains in the main battery. Press Fn + F2 or Fn + F3 to display the Pop-up window. The bar, labeled E (for empty) and F (for full), is automatically set to full when the battery pack is fully charged. For details see the Monitoring battery capacity section in Chapter 7, Power and Power-Up Modes.
