Chapter 4: Basic Switch Commands
42
ENABLE DHCP
Syntax
enable dhcp
Parameters
None.
Description
This command activates the DHCP client software on the switch. This
command is equivalent to ENABLE IP REMOTEASSIGN on page 43 and
the SET IP INTERFACE command. The default setting for the DHCP client
software is disabled.
Note
When you activate DHCP, the switch immediately begins to query
the network for a DHCP server. The switch continues to query the
network for its IP configuration until it receives a response.
Any static IP address, subnet mask, or gateway address assigned to
the switch is deleted from the System Configuration menu and
replaced with the value the switch receives from the DHCP server. If
you later disable DHCP, these values are returned to their default
settings.
To disable DHCP, refer to DISABLE DHCPBOOTP on page 38 or DISABLE
IP REMOTEASSIGN on page 39.
Note
You cannot manually assign an IP address or subnet mask to a
switch once the DHCP client software is activated.
Example
The following command activates the DHCP client software on the
switch:
enable dhcp
