To Troubleshoot the

TCP/IP Connection

When to use Use the troubleshooting guidelines in this section if your network

 

is not functioning properly after you administer the TCP/IP.

Check

 

Is the network management station functional on the

hardware

network?

 

 

Is the ethernet cabling installed?

Definitions

 

A host is the computer in charge of a telecommunications

 

or a local area network session.

 

The local host is the name that network software uses to

 

identify each PC on the network.

 

A proxy agent is the name of the Proxy Agent PC.

Check the

 

Open the /etc/hosts file. If the answer to any of the following

hosts file

questions is “no,” m ake the appropriate corrections.

 

Does the file contain lines of text similar to the following?

 

127.0.0.1

[localhost]

123.45.67.9 [proxyagent]

Do the values of [localhost] and [proxyagent] match those in the report that displays when you run the netstat -i command? (See Example status data, later in this section.)
