Rack Mounting an MGX 8230
Step 1 Insert a the small flat head screwdriver into the lever slot and press until the latch springs open
(approximately 10°).

cards.
Step 2 Pull/rotate the insertion/extractor lever to disconnect the card from the backplane.
Caution When extracting a front c ar d, ke ep th e c ar d le v e l un ti l it i s co mple t el y ex tr ac t ed from the c ha ss is. Do
not allow the front cards to drop ag ai nst th e cards below them. This could dama g e c om ponents on
the cards.
Step 3 Gently pull the card out of the car d cag e. Keep it level a nd ma ke sure that the card does not hit th e o ne
beneath it.
Remove the Back Cards
Back cards are retained with two c aptive screws: one at the top of the facepla te and one at the bottom of
the faceplate.
To remove a back card:
Step 1 Label and remove any cables connected to t he back card.
Step 2 Use a screwdriver (flat or phillips a s applicable) to undo the t wo r eta in in g s cr ews i n th e back card’s
faceplate.
Step 3 Pull both of the two extractor levers out to th e horizontal position, this will st art the removal of the card.
Step 4 Gently pull the card out of t he card cage.

Even with the cards re m oved , the weight and bulk of t he card cage mandate th at three or more people
install it. Two installers can support an d man e u ver t he MGX 8230 while a third secu re s it to the rack.
•Rear mounting brackets cannot be installed before putting a unit in a 19-inch rack.
•On MGX 8230 systems that will be mid-mounted, attach mid-mounting brackets before installing
the unit in a rack.
Caution The MGX 8230 weighs 120 lbs to 150 lbs (54 kg to 68 kg) depending upon the number of installed
cards. Have two persons, one each side, lift the MG X 8 230 int o the rac k, or use a mechanical lift as
shown in Install the MGX 8230 Using a Mechanical Lift (Recommended), page 4-6.
