Chapter6 Card and Service Configuration Eight-Port Circuit Emulation Service Modules
Configuring Service on an Eight-Port CESM
This section describes th e st eps for setting up a CESM an d adding connections. Th e maximum number
of connections is 248 on the MGX-CESM/ B-8E 1 and 192 on t he MGX-CE SM/ B- T1. Use eit he r the CL I
or the Cisco WAN Manager appli cation to set up a CESM a nd add connections. Th e following list shows
the fundamental tasks and appl ica ble CLI commands:
Optionally configure redundancy at the card level (addred and possibly addlink on the PXM1 )
Optionally modify resource partitions at the card level (cnfcdrscprtn)
Activate a physical line (addln) and optionally configure the line (cnfln)
Create logical ports for struct ur ed d at a t ra nsp o rt on a physical line (addport)
Optionally modify resource partitions at the port level (cnfportrscprtn)
Add connections by using addcon (or addchan if NSAP add r essi ng i s n ece ssary)
For CESM-related commands, see the list of service module commands at the beginning of the Cisco
MGX 8000 Series Command Refer ence . Also, each command description in the command reference lis ts
related commands. For exam pl e, it shows display commands th at r ela te to addition commands.

Configuring the Card, Lines, and Ports

This section describes how to configure parameters for the card, lines, and ports through the CLI. If you
use the CiscoView application, re fe r to th e Ci scoView documentation. On the CL I , t he co m m a nd
sequence is:
Step 1 addln <line number>
where line number is in the range 18. You can modify line characteristics with cnfln.
Step 2 Optionally execute cnfln to modify line characteri s tic s f rom th e d efa ul ts. (Use dspln or dsplns to
check). The syntax for cnfln is:
cnfln <line_num> <line_code> <line_len> <clk_src> [E1-signalling]
line_num is a line n um be r in the range 18
line_code is a number t ha t specifies the line coding: 2= B 8 Z S ( T 1 ) ; 3 =H D B 3 (E1); and
4=AMI (T1/E1)
line_len is the line length: 10-15 for T1; 8 for E1 with SMB line module; 9 for E1 with RJ-48 line
module
clk_src is a number spec if yi ng the clock source: 1 f or l oop clock; 2 for loca l c lock
Receive LOF n/a n/a
Receive AIS Blue (AIS) AIS (link) FERF OAM
cells AIS over the T1 link o r alternating 1s
and 0s E1 link.
