Configuring Logical Int er faces for the Feeder
To configure logical, broadband interfaces o n th e ph ysi cal in t er face :
Step 1 Select the MGX 8230 PXM by cl icking on the faceplate of th e c ar d. A n ou tl in e o f th e card lights up.
Step 2 Select Configure then card at the top of the MGX 8230 graphic. The Configure Card window
appears with information on t he cu rre nt ca rd.
Step 3 Click on the button next to the C ATEGORY field, then sel ect B ro ad ba nd I n terfa ces . A ma trix appears
for configuring logical interfaces on the active lines. The maximum number of user-ports is 32.
Step 4 Select the Create button to add a lo g ica l interface. A text box appears th at let s y ou e nter:
A number in the range 132 for the new logical interface
The port number of the physical line to which you assign the logical interface
A percentage of the m a xi mum bandwidth on t he li ne for the new logical i nt e r fac e
A minimum VPI number for th e n ew l ogic al interface in the range 04095
A maximum VPI number fo r th e n ew l og ic a l in ter fa ce in th e range 04095
Step 5 Type a value in each of the fields, then press th e A p pl y butto n. Th e m essage Addition of broadband
interface is successful appears, otherwise an error message appears. Example errors are entries
out-of-range or values that conflict with existing configurations.
Note The Create windows message of successful ad di tio n o f an in te rf ace is a ccurate, but new interfaces
do not appear in the C onfigure Broadband In te rfaces per Card wind ow u ntil you close and re op en
this window.
Step 6 If necessary, specify additional int er fac es i n t he m a tr ix . You can leave th e C re at e b ox o p en an d write
over residual text or reopen this box later.
Step 7 Select the Cancel butt on a t the bottom of the wi nd ow to exit.
If you subsequently want to delete or change a logical interface:
Step 1 Open the Broadband Interfaces window.
Step 2 On the row for the targeted logica l i nt er fac e, move t h e cu r sor t o th e S t atu s c olumn and hold the left
mouse button down on the current status. A small menu opens with add, del, and mod choices.
Select del to delete the interface.
or
Select mod to change a parameter.
Step 3 Select the Modify button at the bottom of the wi ndow. To see the result of any changes, close then reopen
the Broadband Interfaces window.
