Preparing for Pacing

In preparation for pacing:

1.Apply multifunction defib electrode pads as directed on the package. Use either the anterior-anterior or anterior-posterior placement, as appropriate.

2.Connect the pads to the patient cable. (See Figure 6-2.)

3.If needed, insert a Data Card (as described in “Using a Data Card” on 2- 11).

4.Press On.

5.Enable Manual Mode. (See “Enabling Manual Mode” on page 6-2.)

In addition, for demand mode pacing:

1.Apply monitoring electrodes. (See “Applying Monitoring Electrodes” on page 4-2.)

to select the best lead with an easily detectable R-wave (See

“Selecting the Lead” on page 4-5.) If you do not select a lead (i.e. pads is

the selected ECG source), /HDG￿, is automatically selected when the pacing

 

function is turned on.

 

 

 

If pacing for long periods of time, new monitoring electrodes and multifunc-

 

tion defib electrode pads may need to be applied periodically. Refer to the

 

manufacturer’s documentation for how often to change monitoring electrodes

 

or defib pads.
