6 Defibrillating in Manual Mode

In Manual Mode you assess the ECG, decide if defibrillation is indicated, select the discharge energy level, and deliver the shock. The defibrillation process is under your control. There are no voice prompts, however, system and momentary messages provide relevant information throughout the pro- cess. It is important to be attentive to these messages.

This chapter describes how to access Manual Mode and use it for defibrilla- tion. For Manual Mode features such as synchronized cardioversion and pac- ing, see the “Performing Synchronized Cardioversion” and “Pacing” chapters.

For information on printing, storing, and retrieving patient information acquired in Manual Mode, see Chapter 9.
