Boosting the bass
Bassboost function boosts the bass level of
soundlower than 100 Hz. The more the bass
levelis increased, the more the bass sound is
emphasizedand the entire sound becomes
powerful.When using this functionwith the
subwoofer,the sound under the cut-off fre-
quencyis boosted.
1 PressAUDIO to select BASS.
PressAUDIO until BASS appears in the dis-
play.
2 PushMULTI-CONTROL up or down to
selecta desired level.
0to+6 is displayed as the level is increased or
decreased.
Front image enhancer (F.I.E.)
TheF.I.E. (Front Image Enhancer) function is a
simplemethod of enhancing front imaging by
cuttingmid- and high-range frequency output
fromthe rear speakers, limiting their output to
low-rangefrequencies. You can select the fre-
quencyyou want to cut.
Precaution
Whenthe F.I.E. function is deactivated, the rear
speakersoutput sound of all frequencies, not just
basssounds. Reduce the volume before disenga-
gingF.I.E. to prevent a sudden increase in vo-
lume.
1 PressAUDIO to select FIE.
PressAUDIO until FIE appears in the display.
#Whenthe rear output setting is R-SP :S/W,
youcannot select FIE.
#Whenthe HPF function is on, you cannot se-
lectFIE.
2 PushMULTI-CONTROL up to turn F.I.E.
on.
#Toturn F.I.E.off, push MULTI-CONTROL down.
3 PushMULTI-CONTROL left or right to
selecta desired frequency.
Eachtime MULTI-CONTROL is pushed left or
right,frequencies are selected in the following
order:

!Afterturning the F.I.E. function on, use the bal-
anceadjustment (refer to page 58) and adjust
frontand rear speaker volume levels until they
arebalanced.
!Turnthe F.I.E.function off when using a 2-
speakersystem.
Adjusting source levels
SLA(source level adjustment) lets you adjust
thevolume level of each source to prevent ra-
dicalchanges in volume when switching be-
tweensources.
!Settingsare based on the FM tuner volume
level,which remains unchanged.
1 Comparethe FM tuner volume level
withthe level of the source you wish to ad-
just.
2 PressAUDIO to select SLA.
PressAUDIO until SLA appears in the display.
3 PushMULTI-CONTROL up or down to
adjustthe source volume.
Eachtime MULTI-CONTROL is pushed up or
down,source volume increases or decreases.
SLA: +4 toSLA : 4isdisplayed as the source
volumeis increased or decreased.

!TheMW/LW tuner volume level can also be
adjustedwith source level adjustments.
!Thebuilt-in CD player and the multi-CD player
areset to the same source level adjustment
volumeautomatically.
!Externalunit 1 and external unit 2 are set to
thesame source level adjustment volume
