How Do I Connect My Gatew ay f o r Internet and Telephone Service?
WARNING:
To avoid perso nal injury, fo llow the installation instructions in the exact
order shown.
To prevent possible damage to equipme nt, disconnect any other telephone
service before connecting your cable modem to the same wires.
Hazardous electrical voltages can exist on the telephone ports on the
residential gateway and can be present o n any connected wiring including
Ethernet wiring , telephone wiring and coax cable.
Telephone wiring and connections must be properly insulated to pr event
electrical sh ock.
Telephone connections to an installed hom e telephone wiring network
must be done by a qualified installer. The cable telephone service
provide r may offer prof essional installatio n and co nnection to the home
telephone wir ing network. A fee may be charged for this service.
Wiring and co nnections m ust be properly insulate d to preve nt electrical
shock.
Disconnect power from the residential g ateway befor e attempting to
connect to any device.
2 Power off your PC and other networking device; t hen, unpl ug them from t he
power sou rce.
3 Connect t he active RF coaxia l cable from your service provider to the coax
connector label ed CABLE on the back of the resid ential gat eway.
Note: To connect a TV, DHCT, set-top, or VCR from the sa me cable connection,
you will need to install a cable signal splitter (not inclu ded). Always check with
your servic e pro vider bef ore u sing a s plitter a s a splitt er may d egrade the signal.
4 Connect you r PC t o the resi dential gatewa y using either of the follo wing
method s.
Ethernet Connection: Locat e the yellow Ethernet cabl e, connect one end of
the E thernet cable to t he Ethernet po rt on your PC , and c onnect the o ther end
to the y ellow ETHERNET port on t he back of the resid ential gatewa y.
Note: To install more E thernet devices than po rts provided on the resid ential
gateway, use a n external mult i-port Ethernet switch(s).
Wireless: Make su re that your wireless device is powered u p. You will need
to associa te your wireless d evice with the wireless gateway o nce the gateway
is operationa l. Follow the directions provid ed with your wireless d evice for
associa ting with a wireless access point.
