How Do I Maintain the Battery? (Optional)
Your modem may include a rechargeab le Lithium-Ion battery to provide stand-by
operat ion in the event of an AC power failure. You can rep lace the bat tery without
the use of any tools.
WARNING:
Fully charged high-capacity rechargeable batteries should be handled with
care. Replace only with the battery recommended by the manufacturer. Do no t
disassemble it or atte mpt to recharge the batter y outside the system . Do not
crush, puncture, dispose o f in a fire, short the external contacts, or expose to
high temper ature or immerse in water or other liquids. Dispose o f the battery
in accordance with local reg ulations and instructions from your service
provider.

Charging the Batte ry

The battery begins to charge automatically as soon as you attach the modem to the
AC electric al o utlet. When you first p lug in the modem, t he POWER LED status
indicator illum inates.
Important: It may take as long as 24 hours for the bat tery to charge fully.

Using the Modem Wi thout a Batte ry

If you wa nt, you can use t he modem without a batt ery. If you need t o remove the
battery, follow the procedu res found in Removing and Replacing the Battery
(on pa ge 31).
Important: If you choose to operate your modem without a battery, you risk losing
your telephone s ervice during a power outa ge.

Replacing the Battery

Under normal circumst ances, the bat tery should last for several years. The
BATTERY LED st atus indicator turns off to indicate that the battery should be
replaced s oon. Contact your service provider to obtain replac ement ba tteries and for
disposa l instructions .
