How Do I Connect My Gateway for Internet and Telephone Service?
5 Connect one end of a telep hone jumper c able (not included) to a telephone outlet
in your hom e or to a telephone or fax machine. Then connect the other end o f the
jumper cab le to the appropria te RJ-11 TELEPHONE port on the ba ck of the
residential gateway. The telephone p orts are light gray a nd are labeled 1/2 and 2
or 1 and 2 depending on t he region of the world the residential gat eway is used.
Notes:
Make su re to connect yo ur telephone service to t he correct RJ-11 port. For
single line telephone s ervice, connect to port 1/2 or 1.
In North Americ a, residentia l gateways have multi-line capab ility on the
RJ-11 telephone port labeled 1/2. Line 1 is on pins 3 and 4 of port 1/2,
and Line 2 is s uppo rted on pins 2 and 5. In Europe, residential ga teways
supp ort only one line per port. Line 1 is on p ort 1 a nd line 2 is on port 2 .
Telephones that require elec trical connect ors ot her than RJ-11 may
require an ext ernal a dap ter (s old sep arat ely).
6 Locat e the AC p ower cord p rovided with you r residential g ateway. Ins ert one
end of the p ower cord into the AC connector on the bac k of the residentia l
gateway. Then, plug the AC power cord int o an AC outlet to power-up the
residential gateway. The resident ial gateway will perform an aut omatic search to
locat e and sign on to the broa dband data network. This proc ess may ta ke up to 2-
5 minutes . The mo dem will be ready for u se when t he POWER, DS, US a nd
ONLINE LED s on the front pa nel of the resident ial ga teway sto p blinking and
remain on cont inuous ly.
7 Plug in and p ower o n your PC a nd other home network device s. The LIN K LED
on the residentia l gatewa y corresponding to the connected d evices should be on
or blinking.
8 Once the resident ial gatewa y is online, mos t Internet devices will have
immediat e Internet ac cess.
