This softkey sets the synthesizer to choose its frequency standard automatically. If an external standard is connected to the 10 MHz REF INPUT BNC, then it is chosen as the reference. If no external standard is connected, the internal standard is chosen as the reference. If the internal standard has been disconnected also, the synthesizer operates in a free run state. An asterisk next to the key label indicates that this feature is active.

This softkey tells the synthesizer to accept an external 10 MHz signal as the frequency reference. The external signal must be applied to the 10 MHz REF INPUT BNC connector located on the rear panel. If no external signal is applied, UNLOCK and EXT REF appears on

the message line of the display. An asterisk next to the key label indicates that this feature is active.
