For communications between switches to operate properly, the switch identifiers must be properly set:
■The switch identifier must be appropriate for a MERLIN LEGEND or DEFINITY system.
■The switch identifier must be appropriate for near or far distance between connected systems.
■The switch identifier must be programmed on every tandem trunk
If the switch identifiers are not properly set, any or all of the following problems may occur:
■Automatic cycling not blocked
■ARS not working across systems (the switch can’t identify tandem versus central office lines).
■Incorrect call signaling information sent for calls to the VMS/AA (exact results depend on the VMS used).
■Incorrect SMDR reports
■Message Waiting light updates not sent or received properly
■Other unidentified problems
To check the switch identifier on a system, consult “Switch Identifiers” in Chapter 5 of this guide. Alternatively, follow one of the summary procedures listed below, starting from the System Programming menu on your console or PC.
