Ejecting Film

The SA-21 is equipped with a locking mechanism that prevents the adapter from being removed while film is in place. Before removing the SA-21 from the scanner, be sure to eject the film by clicking the eject button in Nikon Scan (circled in the illustration above). Attempting to remove the adapter without ejecting the film can result in the adapter becoming separated from the connectors at the rear of the adapter slot, interfering with scanning. If you have attempted to remove the adapter before ejecting film, push the adapter back into the slot slightly to ensure that the connection is not interrupted. Do not attempt to remove the adapter by force, as this could damage both the adapter and scanner.

To eject film when the computer is off or Nikon Scan is not running, turn the scanner off and then on again. The film will be ejected automatically, releasing the adapter lock mechanism. Wait for the status LED to stop flashing and then remove the adapter and close the sliding cover.
