DEFINING YOUR OWN NLQ CHARACTERS

Asyou probablynoticed,NLQcharactersareprinted bytwo passesof the
printhead.Halfof thecharacteris printedonthe firstpass,and theremain-
deron thesecondpass. Thepaper isrolledup halfadot heightin between
passesto let the print headprint dotson the secondpass that overlapthe
previousdots,in order tofill in the spacesandproduce densercharacters.
Additionally,theprint head speed is halved,and the dots are printed at
doublethedensityof draft characters.Forthisreason,IW,Qcharacterscan
containup to 23dots in thehorizontaldirection.
Fundamentally,theprocessto defineandprintdownloadedNLQcharacter
isthe same asfor draftcharacters,exceptthat youmustassignthe charac-
terdata accordingtothe emulationmode,you areusing.
Assigningthe characterdata with theStandardmode
Thereare differencesinthe waythe attributeinformationisprocessed.
Inthe draftquality modetheattributebyte carriesthedescenderdata, and
specifiestheleft spaceandthe characterwidth.Inthe NLQmode,ther are
