Glossary
Term Denition
A record A type of DNS record that maps a d omain name to an IPv4 address.
AAAA record A type of DNS record that maps a d omain name to an IPv6 addres s.
Administrator Policy In relation to the VCS, the set of rules c ongured system-wide (eit her via the web interface or C PL script) that determine the a ction(s) to be applied to calls matching
a given criteria.
Alias The name an endpoint uses when re gistering with the VCS. Oth er endpoints can then use this nam e to call it. An endpoint may registe r with more than one alias.
Alternate One or more VCSs congured to su pport the same zone in orde r to provide redundancy.
ARQ
Admission Request
An endpoint RAS request to make or a nswer a call.
Assent TANDBERG’s proprietary protoco l for rewall traversal.
Border Controller A TANDBERG device used to control mul timedia networks and rewall t raversal.
Call Policy The set of rules (administrator polic y, user policy and transforms) that are a pplied to a single call to determine w hether and how it is placed.
CLI
Command Line Interface
A text-based user interfa ce used to access the VCS.
CPL
Call Processing Language
An XML-based language for denin g call handling. Dened by RFC 38 80 [5].
DNS
Domain Name System
A distributed database linkin g domain names to IP addresses.
DNS zone On the VCS, a zone used to c ongure access to endpoints l ocated via a DNS lookup.
E.164 An ITU standard for structu red telephone numbers. Eac h telephone number consists of a c ountry code, area code and su bscriber number. For example, TANDBE RG’s
European Headquarters’ ph one number is +47 67 125125, corresponding to a c ountry code of 47 for Norway, area c ode of 67 for Lysaker and nally 125125 to
determine which phone line in Lysake r.
ENUM
tElephone NUmber Mapping
A means of mapping E.164 numbers to UR Is using DNS.
ENUM zone On th e VCS, a zone used to congure access t o endpoints located via ENUM.
External Manager The remote system that is used to manage endpoints and net work infrastructure. Th e TANDBERG Management Suite (T MS) is an example of an external manager.
Firewall traversal Crossing a rewall or NAT device.
FindMe™ A TANDBERG featu re that allows users to have a single alia s on which they can be reached re gardless of the endpoint(s) they are cur rently using.
FQDN
Fully Qualied Domain Name
A domain name that species the n ode’s position in the DNS tree absolute ly, uniquely identifying the s ystem or device. Note that in orde r to use FQDNs instead of
IP Addresses when congurin g the VCS, you must have at least one DNS s erver congured.
Gatekeeper A device used to control H.323 mu ltimedia networks. An exampl e is the TANDBERG Gatekeeper.
Gatekeeper Zone A collection of all the endpoints, gateways and M CUs managed by a single gatekeeper.
H.323 A standard that denes the p rotocols used for packet-ba sed multimedia communicatio ns systems.
