Inlet Systems

Split/splitless capillary inlet

The split ratio is an indicator of the fraction of total sample entering the column: the higher the value, the less sample enters the column.

For setting flow for split sampling, see Chapter 4 of the HP 5890

Operating Manual.

Verifying inlet purge status

Verify that inlet purge flow is currently on, and will remain on throughout runs to be made in split sampling mode.

CTo display current inlet purge status:

PURGE/VALVE A ( or B )

If OFF is displayed, press ON to restore inlet purging.

CTo display elapsed time during a run when inlet purging will be halted:

PURGE/VALVE A ( or B ) TIME OFF

CTo display elapsed time during a run when inlet purging will be restored:

PURGE/VALVE

A

( or

B ) TIME

ON

(or ON alone if PURGE TIME is already displayed)

For split sampling, both times should be set to 0.00 and inlet purging must currently be ON. If necessary, this is done simply by pressing 0 ENTER when PURGE TIME OFF (or ON) is displayed.
