6.1Introduction

The Power and Sleep Controller (PSC) is responsible for managing transitions of system power on/off, clock on/off, and reset. The DM643x DMP only utilizes the clock gating feature of the PSC for power savings. The PSC consists of a Global PSC (GPSC) and a set of Local PSCs (LPSCs). The GPSC contains memory mapped registers, PSC interrupt control, and a state machine for each peripheral/module. An LPSC is associated with each peripheral/module and provides clock and reset control. Figure 6-1shows how the PSC is integrated on the device. Many of the operations of the PSC are transparent to software, such as power-on and hard reset operations. However, the PSC provides you with an interface to control several important power, clock, and reset operations. The power, clock, and reset operations are the focus of this chapter.

The PSC includes the following features:

Manages chip power-on/off and resets

Provides a software interface to:

Control module clock ON/OFF

Control module resets

Control DSP local reset (CPU reset)

Supports IcePick emulation features: power, clock, and reset

NOTE: The effects of DSP local reset and DSP module reset have not been fully validated; therefore, these resets are not supported and should not be used. Instead, the POR or RESET pins should be used to reset the entire DSP.
