Configuring IP Routing 14-7
IP Interface Parameters

Table 14-2 through Table 1 4-4 lis t all possi ble IP Interface p arameters . ( Some wi ll not

be displayed, depending on how others are configured.) Because several parameters

apply to more then one interface type, descriptions of all IP Interface parameters

follow Table 14-4.

1Valid po rt num bers dep end on t he model of Sma rtSwitc h 1800— see port locatio ns on
page 6-1 . Make sure the frame relay port is not configured (in the Port reco rd) for backup
use only. (See page 7-18.)
2Make sure the DLCI is not part of a frame relay DLCI backup group or intra-nodal
frame relay PVC (both described in Chapter 7).
3Y for new interfaces, N for interfaces already configured when the current release o f
SmartSwitch 1800 software is installed.
4255.255 .255.255 is valid only on a point-to-point interface.
5The def ault v alue of Ne two rk Mas k will be configured automatically, to reflect the
appropriate address class, after the Source IP Address is specified. If the interface is
configured as unnumbered (and, therefore, no Source IP Address is configured), the
defau lt value of Network M ask
will be taken from the numbered interface that is
assigned. If a Source IP Addres s is specifie d/changed, th e Network

Mask will automatically change to a default value appro-

priate for the new address. For this reason, configure the

Source IP Address first, then the Network Mask.
