Reviewing Boot Messages
As a SmartSwitch 1800 boots, screen inf ormation (assum ing t here is a scree n) verif ies
configuration file format an d displays any errors. T his data is dis played only until the
SmartSwitch software is running; however, it is saved in a file named BOOTRPT.TXT,
and the operator can later display it. This can be used as a tool to verify that startup of
the node proceeded without errors. If there is an error reported, the data may aid in
fixing the problem.
If the device is shut down, then rebooted, the existing BOOTRPT.TXT file will be
renamed BOOTBAK.TXT, and a n ew BOOTRPT.TXT will be created. BOOTRPT.TXT
and BOOTBAK.TXT can be used as foll ows:
1. Display and review the data from the “current” boot of the device.
2. Address any reported problems.
3. Re-boot the device. (This copies the previous boot data to a backup file.)
4. Display the new boot data, and compare it to the previous data. This will show
whet her the p roble m was fi xed. A lso, a probl em that o ccur red duri ng the previ ous
boot-up will often be cleared up by re-booting.
To display the data from the current boot-up, press [C] at the Reports Men u (or [F], then
[C] from the Main Menu). To display the data from the previous boot-up (saved in a
file called BOOTBAK.TXT), pres s [D ] at the Reports menu (or [F], [D] from the M ain
Menu).
