Chapter 6Configuring Physical Ports
SmartSwitch 1800 ports provide access connections to devices, and routing connec-
tions to networks. Each port must be configured in the software to specify the oper-
ating parameters of the hardware and the protocol that will run on the port.
The SmartSwitch 1800 supports physical ports, as well as logical X.25 ports, which
run on a physical frame relay port. Configuration of logical ports is described in
Chapter 8.

Figure 6-1 Physi cal Ports on Voice Models
The physical interfaces on Voice models of SmartSwitch 1800 are as follows:
The CSU/DSU port is RJ48C.
The LAN port, provided in two interface types, depends on the model:
Ether ne t – RJ48 (UTP, 10B aseT) a nd DB15F (AUI, 10B ase5) .
Token R i n g – RJ45 (UTP) an d D B9F (ST P ) .
WAN ports 0 and 1 are RS-232 DTE (male) and/or DCE (female), depending
on the attached Cabletron cables. (If the optional C SU/DSU port is used, WAN
port 1 is disabled.)
WAN ports 2 and 3 are determined by the attached Cabletron cables: RS-232,
V.35, and/or RS-449, all available as either DTE (male) or DCE (female).
Voice ports 1 and 2 are RJ45.
