Removinga Transceiver from an EX Series Switch

Thetransceivers for EX Series switches are hot-removableand hot-insertable
field-replaceableunits (FRUs): Youcan remove and replace them without powering off
theswitch or disrupting switch functions.
Beforeyou begin removing a transceiver from an EX Series switch,ensure that you have
takenthe necessary precautions for safe handling of lasers(see “Laser and LED Safety
Guidelinesand Warnings for EX Series Switches” on page 121).
Ensurethat you have the following parts and tools available:
Anantistatic bag or an antistatic mat
Needlenosepliers
Rubbersafety caps to cover the transceiverand fiber-optic cable connector
Adust cover to cover the port
Figure37 on page 96 shows how to remove an SFP transceiver.The procedure is the
samefor all transceiver types.
Toremove a transceiverfrom an EX Series switch:
1. Placethe antistatic bag or antistatic mat on a flat, stablesurface.
2. Labelthe cable connected to the transceiver so that youcan reconnect it correctly.
WARNING: Donot look directly into a fiber-optic transceiveror into the
endsof fiber-optic cables. Fiber-optic transceivers and fiber-optic cables
connectedto transceivers emit laser light that candamage your eyes.
