Inaddition, you should establish procedures to protect yourequipment in the event of a
fireemergency.Juniper Networks products should be installedin an environment suitable
forelectronic equipment. We recommend that firesuppression equipment be available
inthe event of a fire in the vicinity of the equipment and that all local fire, safety, and
electricalcodes and ordinances be observed when installing and operating your
equipment.
FireSuppression
Inthe event of an electrical hazard or an electrical fire, you shouldfirst turn power off to
theequipment at the source. Thenuse a Type C fire extinguisher, which uses noncorrosive
fireretardants, to extinguish the fire.
FireSuppression Equipment
TypeC fire extinguishers, which use noncorrosive fireretardants such as carbon dioxide
andHalotron™, are mosteffective for suppressing electricalfires. Type C fire extinguishers
displaceoxygen from the point of combustion to eliminatethe fire. For extinguishing fire
onor around equipment that draws air from the environment for cooling, you should use
thistype of inert oxygen displacement extinguisherinstead of an extinguisher that leaves
residueson equipment.
Donot use multipurpose Type ABC chemical fire extinguishers (dry chemicalfire
extinguishers). The primary ingredient in these fire extinguishers is monoammonium
phosphate, which is very sticky and difficultto clean. In addition, in the presence of minute
amountsof moisture, monoammonium phosphate can become highly corrosive and
corrodesmost metals.
Anyequipment in a room in which a chemical fire extinguisher has been discharged is
subjectto premature failure and unreliable operation. The equipment is considered to
beirreparably damaged.
NOTE: Tokeepwarranties effective,do not use a dry chemical fire extinguisher
tocontrol a fire at or near a Juniper Networks switch or other networkdevice
providedby Juniper. If a dry chemical fire extinguisher is used, the unit is no
longereligible for coverage under a serviceagreement.
Werecommend that you dispose of any irreparablydamaged equipment in an
environmentallyresponsible manner.
