The software that takes care of the I/O tasks between the user terminals/MODEMs/printers and the UNIX system is built into the IPC-1600 firmware to increase the UNIX system performance. End users get the benefit of immediate keyboard/screen response and the enhancement of the overall performance of the UNIX system. The UNIX system driver supports the 8-bit character set.

The MS-DOS device driver supports an 8-bit character set and the MS-DOS level interface.
