Receiving Messages
Receiving MessagesWhen you receive a voice ma il message,
Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) message,
Short Message Service (S MS) message, or Net
alert, you have 2 ways to access the message:
•Respond to the message not ification that
appears when the message is received.
•Dismiss the messag e notification and access
the message later through the message center.
Message Notifications
When you receive a messag e, your phone notifies
you with text on the display and a notification ton e
or vibration. You can access the message or
dismiss the notification.
If you dismiss the notification, the message is not
deleted. It can be accessed through t he message
center.
If you are not on a phone call when you receive a
message, your phone soun ds a notification tone
every 30 seconds until you access the message,
you dismiss the notification, or the alert time-out
expires.
When you are on a phone call, you can receive
message notific ations for all type s of messages
except MMS messages. For other types of
messages, your phon e ma y soun d a notification
tone during the call or after you end the call,
depending on how you set your notification
options.
Setting Notification Options
To control whether your phone sounds message
notification tones while you are on phone calls:
1From the main menu, sele ct Settings > Phone
Calls > Notifications.
2Select the option you want:
• Receive All — Tones sound during calls for
all types of messages except MMS
messages.
• Message Mail Only — Tones sound during
calls for SMS messages; tones for all other
types of messages are held until you end
calls.
• Delay All — T ones for all types of messages
are held until you end calls.
Note:Del ay All is the default setting.
Tip:To set notifi cation options during a call:
Press m. Select In Call Setup >
Notifications.
