Making and Receiving Calls in Direct

TalkSM Mo de

To make a call on a specific c ode and channel
using Direct Talk:
1From the Direct Talk idle screen or the channel
and code edit screen, press and hold the PTT
button. Transmit appears on the display. Begin
speaking after you r phone emits the Dir ect Talk
tone.
2Release the PTT button to listen.
The tone emitted from your phone when making a
Direct Talk call is 4 beeps and sounds different
from the standard tone he ar d wi th D ire ct Connect
calls, Group Connect ca ll s, and Talkgroup calls.
If you receive an error message:
•There may be no parties on your channel or
code.
•You are out of range.
When you receive a call using Dire ct Talk , Receive
appears on the display .

Receive All

You can set your phone to receive D irect Talk
transmissions from any phone that is set to the
same channel, regardle ss of the code (1-15), by
setting the code to Receive All. When you rece ive
transmissions w ith the code set to Receive All, the
display changes from Receive All to the code on
which the transmission was re ce iv ed .
Note:You cann ot initiate a call w hen the code is
set to Receive All. If you pr ess the PTT
button with the code set to Receive All,
you will receive an error message.
To set the code to Rece ive All:
1From the Direct Talk idle screen, pre ss A under
Edit.
2Scroll to Code.
3Press A under Edit.
4Select Receive All.
5When you are finished, press A under Back to
return to the idle screen .
Private Direct TalkSM Calls
You can have a private conversation with another
person using Direct Talk. When on a private Direct
Talk call, no other parties can hear your
