Making Emergency Calls while in Direct TalkSM Mode
call, you must use the valid Nextel 10-digit
Personal Telephon e Number (PTN) of t he person
you are calling. Th e person you are callin g must be
in Direct Talk mode and set t o the same ch ann el to
receive your call.
If you receive an error message:
•You may not be us ing a valid PTN.
•The person that you are trying to reach may not
be in Direct Talk mode.
•The person that you are trying to reach is set to
a different channel or is out of rang e .
Private Only
To limit Direct Talk to p rivate conversation only, set
your code to Pvt Only. In this mode, code calls will
be ignored and only private calls can be made or
received.
Note:You will be re qu ire d to enter a valid PTN
before pressing the P TT button.
To set the code to Pvt Only :
1From the Direct Talk idle screen, pre ss A under
Edit.
2Scroll to Code.
3Press A under Edit.
4Select Pvt Only.
Making a Private Direct TalkSM Call
1Enter the 10-digit PT N of th e per son you want t o
call on your channe l. -or-
Scroll to a number or name in Contacts. -or-
Scroll to a number in the recent calls list.
2Press and hold the PTT button. Begin speaking
after your phone emits the Direct Talk tone.
3Release the PTT button to listen.
The number or name of the person you are calling
will appear in the firs t line of the display.
Receiving a Private Direct TalkSM Call
The number or name of the pe rson who initiated
the call will appear in the first line of the displ ay.
Ending a Private Direct TalkSM Call
A private Direct Talk call will end if there is no
communication for 6 seconds.

while in Direct TalkSM mode, your phone will
automatically exit Direct TalkSM mode and attempt
to find a network signal.
