Section 5 - Chapter 1 - Introduction
VINES Commands, Functions, and Conventions
You should be familiar with the following VINES commands, functions, and conventions. See your Banyan VINES manuals for more information.
StreetTalk
StreetTalk is a global naming system. StreetTalk names are assigned to all users and services within the network. A StreetTalk name is composed of three elements: an item, a group, and an organization. To establish the OkiLAN 6100e+ as a user, a StreetTalk name is required.
MANAGE
MANAGE is the Banyan VINES utility used to configure the network. Through this utility, the OkiLAN 6100e+ is established as a user and print services are created.
Print Service
A Print Service is created using the MANAGE utility. A print service appears to the user as a DOS print device connected to LPT1, LPT2, or LPT3. VINES redirects the output file to the proper print service for printing.
SETPRINT
SETPRINT is a command used to redirect local ports to print services.
BPRINT
BPRINT prints a file to a network printer. BPRINT will be used to verify printing from the OkiLAN 6100e+.
