Removing a Processor

Refer to Figure 5-7 while performing the following procedures. To remove an Pentium processor:

1.Remove the processor board as described earlier in this section.

Notice: Observe static precautions. Use an antistatic wrist strap.

2.Push on the heatsink retention clips to release the clips from the tabs on the ZIF socket.

3.Raise the lever on ZIF socket to the up position (Figure 5-7, A).

4.Grasp the opposite sides of the processor, apply equal upward force on each side and rock it from side to side until it releases.

5.Place microprocessor and heatsink in an antistatic package.

6.Push the lever on the ZIF socket down until it snaps into the locked position (Figure 5-7, G).

7.Move the processor jumper (Figure 5-7, H) from the 2-3 position (2 CPU) to the 1-2 position (1 CPU).

8.Install the processor board back into the system as described later in this chapter.
