Features
OverviewThe server is a modular, multiprocessing server based
on the Intel Pentium® Pro chip set. The chip set
incorporates a modular scaleable architec ture that
integrates a 64-bit bus interface with a primary and
peer Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) bus and
an Extended Industry Standard Arch itecture ( EISA)
bus. The architecture supports Sy mmetrical
Multiprocessing (SMP) and a variety of operating
systems. The chassis and system board are desig ned to
meet the needs of the server marketplace.
The combination of computing performan ce, memory
capacity, and integrated I/O provide s a high
performance environment for many applications
including network servers an d multi-user sy stems.
The server is designed for use in applications where
downtime must be minimized. To this end, the serve r
includes or has the option to include the following:
■ Optional power system redundancy; in a system
configured with three power supplies, the system
will continue to operate with a single power supply
failure.
■ Self-contained power supply units th at can be easily
installed or removed from the back of the c hassis.
■ SCSI drive bays accessible from the front of the
chassis.
■ Hot-swap SCSI disk drive backplane; a failed driv e
can be removed and a new drive installed with out
system power being turned off, if an optio nal
Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID)
controller module is installed.
■ High degree of SCSI disk fault tolerance and
advanced disk array management featur es throug h
the use of RAID (Redundant Array of Independent
Disks) technology, if an optional Redundant Array
of Independent Disks (RAID) controller module is
installed.
