Connecting to a VPN

If you want to use your Treo Pro smartphone to access your corporate email account or other files on your corporate server, you may need to set up a VPN (virtual private network). A VPN enables you to log in to your corporate server through the company’s firewall (security layer).

You need to set up a VPN to access a corporate server in either of the following situations:

Your company’s wireless local area network (LAN) is outside the firewall.

Your company’s wireless LAN is inside the firewall, but you are accessing the network from outside the firewall (for example, from a public location or at home).

Before You Begin

Check with your company’s system administrator to see if a VPN is required for accessing the corporate network. If you need a VPN, you must purchase and install a third-party VPN client in order to use this feature. Before you begin setting up a VPN, ask your system administrator for the following information:

Your user name and password.

Your server’s domain name.

Your server’s TCP/IP settings.

Your server’s host name or IP address.

Did you know?

A common cause of sync problems is the presence of protective software, such as VPNs or firewalls, on your computer or network. See “The Desktop Sync Software Does Not Respond to a Sync Attempt” on page 389.

1.Install your third-party VPN client (see “Installing Applications” on page 318).

2.Press Start and select Settings.

3.Select the Connections tab, and then select Connections .
