Configuration

About Interworking

The VCS is able to act as a gateway betwe en

SIP and H.323, translating calls fr om one

protocol to the other. This is known as

“interworking”.

By default, the VCS will act as a SIP -H.323

gateway but only if at least one of the

endpoints is locally register ed.

You can add an additional option key tha t will

allow the VCS to act as SIP-H.323 ga teway

regardless of whether the endp oints are

locally registered. Contac t your TANDBERG

representative for fur ther information.

In either case, you also always have the opt ion

to disable interworking.

An interworking call is a trav ersal call, and will

therefore consume one traver sal licence for

the duration of the call.

Interworking is enabled v ia:

VCS Configuration > Protocols > Interwor king.

You will be taken to the Interworking p age.

H.323 <-> SIP interworking mod e

Determines whether or not the VC S will act as a gateway between SIP an d H.323 calls.

Off: the VCS will not act as a SIP- H.323 gateway.

RegisteredOnly: the VCS will ac t as a SIP-H.323 gateway but onl y if at least one of the endpoints is

locally registered.

On: the VCS will act as SIP-H.323 ga teway regardless of whether th e endpoints are locally

registered. You must have the appropr iate option key enabled to use this fe ature.

A call between two H.323 endpoi nts

each registered to a differen t VCS may

be routed in such a way that it is

interworked from H.323 to SIP an d back to

H.323. (For example, if the two VCSs are o nly

able to connect via SIP.) In this case, the two

H.323 endpoints involved must sup port H.263

video. If they do not (for example, if H.26 3

has been disabled) the call will stil l be

established but it will be audio on ly.
