About Hop Counts
Each search request is assign ed a hop count value by the
system that initiates the searc h. Every time the request is
forwarded to another neig hbor gatekeeper or proxy, the hop
count value is decreased by a value o f 1. When the hop count
reaches 0, it will not be forward ed on any further.
The hop count used in search requ ests initiated by the local
VCS is configurable on a zone -by-zone basis. This value will
apply to search requests orig inating from the local VCS an d
sent to that zone. It will also override a ny existing hop counts in
requests being forward ed to that zone if the original hop c ount
is higher (if the hop count is lower tha n that set for the zone,
the lower value will apply).
For H.323, the hop count only applie s to search requests.
For SIP, the hop count applies to all requests s ent to a zone,
affecting the Max-F orwards field in the req uest.
The hop count value can be betwe en 1 and 255.
The default is 15.
