Session Initiation Protocol
IETF protocol for controllin g multimedia communicati on. Defined by RFC 3261 [20]
SNMP
Simple Network Managemen t Protocol
A protocol used to monitor netwo rk devices.
Source Alias The alias present in the “source” fiel d of a message.
SRV record
Service record
A type of DNS record.
STUN
Simple Traversal of UDP through NATs
Firewall NAT traversal for SIP. Defined by RF C 3489 [21].
Subzone A segment of a VCS zone.
TCP
Transmission Control Protocol
A reliable communication prot ocol defined by RFC 791 [18].
Telnet A network protocol used on the i nternet or Local Area Netw orks (LANs).
TLS
Transport Layer Securit y
A protocol that provides secu re communications over the int ernet.
Transform In relation to the VCS, the proces s of changing the alias being sear ched for.
Traversal call Any call where both signaling and m edia are routed through th e VCS.
Traversal Client A traversal entity on the pri vate side of a firewall. Exampl es are a TANDBERG Gatekeeper or TANDBE RG VCS.
Traversal Server A traversal entity on the public side of a firewall. Exampl es are the TANDBERG Border Contr oller and the TANDBERG VCS with the B order Controller option en abled.
Traversal-enabled endp oint Any endpoint that support s the Assent and/or ITU H.460.18 and H.460.19 st andards for firewall traver sal. This includes all TANDBERG MX P endpoints.

URI
Uniform Resource Identif ier
A formatted string used to ide ntify a resource, typic ally on the internet.
User Policy The set of rules that determine th e action(s) to be applied to calls for a par ticular user or group.
VCS Border Controller A VCS with the Border Controlle r option added. This allows the VCS t o act as a firewall traversal ser ver.
Zone A collection of endpoints.
