Call Processing
Process
The process followed by the VCS wh en attempting to locate a
destination endpoint is shown i n the diagram opposite.
The user enters into their endpoi nt the an alias or address
of the destination endpoint. T his can be in a number of
different formats.
The destination address is sen t from the caller’s endpoint to
its local VCS (i.e. the VCS to which it is regi stered).
The VCS applies any Local Zone tra nsforms to the alias.
The VCS applies any Administrato r Policy to the
(transformed) alias. If this resul ts in a new alias, the
process starts again, wi th the new alias checked against th e
Local Zone transforms.
The VCS applies any User Policy to the ali as. If the alias is a
FindMe name, the process wil l start again; all the resultin g
aliases will be checked against Loc al Zone transforms and
Administrator Policy.
The VCS then checks all its local r egistrations and those
of its Alternates for the alias, pla cing the call if the alias is
found.
If the alias is not found locally, the VCS will t hen query its
zones, in priority order, to see if any of t hem can find the
alias. If the alias matches an ENUM zone, t his may return
a URI. If so, the process start s again; the URI is checked
against any Local Zone transfor ms, Administrator Policy and
User Policy.
If the alias is found by one of the neigh bor zones, the call
will be placed to that zone.

Locating a Destination Endpoint
Overview
One of the functions of the VCS is to ro ute calls to their
appropriate destination, b ased on the address or alias recei ved
by a locally registered endpoin t or neighbor zone.
There are a number of steps involve d in determining the
destination of a call, and some of the se steps can involve
transforming the alias or redir ecting the call to other aliases . It
is important to understa nd the process before set ting up your
dial plan so you can avoid circular refe rences.
