Adjustment Procedures
If the instrument performance is n ot within tolerance for a particular characteris-
tic, determine the cause, repair if necessary, then use the appropriate adjustment
procedure to returnthe instrument operation to performance specification. After
any adjustment, verify performanceby repeating the applicable part of the
Performance Verificationprocedure.
Allow the instrument to warm up for atleast 15 minutes, in an ambient
temperature of 20°Cto30°Cbefore making any adjustments. Waveform
illustrations in the adjustment procedure aretypical and may differ from one
instrument to another. These waveforms should not be construed as being
representative of specification t olerances.

Static Discharge Precautions

Static discharge candamage many semiconductor components used in this
instrument.
Many semiconductor components, especiallyMOS types, can be damaged by
static discharge. Damagemay not be catastrophic and, therefore, not immediately
apparent. It usually appears as a degradationof the semiconductor characteristics.
Devices that are particularly susceptible are: MOS, C MOS, JFETs, and high
impedance operational amplifiers(FET input stages.) The damaged parts may
operate within acceptable limits over a short period, but their reliability will have
been severely impaired.Damage can be significantly reduced by observing the
following precautions.
HHandle static sensitive components or circuit assembliesat or on a staticfree
surface. Work station areas should contain a staticfree benchcover or work
plane such as conductive polyethylene sheeting and a grounding wrist strap.
The work plane should be connectedto earth ground.
HAll test equipment, accessories , and soldering tools should be connected to
earth ground.
HMinimize handling by keeping the componentsin their original containers
until ready for use. Minimize theremoval and installation of semiconductors
from their circuit boards.
HHold the IC devices by the body ratherthan the terminals.
HUse containers made of conductive materialor filled with conductive
material for storageand transportation. Avoid using ordinary plastic
containers. Any static sensitive partor assembly (circuit board) that is to be
returned to Tektronix,Inc. should be packaged in its original container or
one with antistatic packaging material.
