NOTICE: For configurations requiring less than eight memory modules, memory module blanks must be installed in four of the unoccupied memory sockets to maintain proper cooling airflow. See Table 3-2.

Installing Memory Modules

CAUTION: Only trained service technicians are authorized to remove the system cover and access any of the components inside the system. See your Product Information Guide for complete information about safety precautions, working inside the computer, and protecting against electrostatic discharge.

CAUTION: The memory modules are hot to the touch for some time after the system has been powered down. Allow time for the memory modules to cool before handling them. Handle the memory modules by the card edges and avoid touching the components.

1Remove the server module. See "Removing a Server Module" on page 73.

2Open the server module. See "Opening the Server Module" on page 75.

3Locate the memory module sockets. See Figure 6-3.

4Press the ejectors on the memory module socket down and out, as shown in Figure 3-16, to allow the memory module to be inserted into the socket. I

If a memory module blank is installed in the socket, remove it. See Figure 3-16.
