
System Board (Service-Only Procedure)
Removing the System Board
CAUTION: Only trained service technicians are authorized to remove the system cover and access any of the components inside the system. See your Product Information Guide for complete information about safety precautions, working inside the computer, and protecting against electrostatic discharge.
1Remove the server module. See "Removing a Server Module" on page 73.
2Open the server module. See "Opening the Server Module" on page 75.
CAUTION: The processor and heat sink can become extremely hot. Be sure the processor has had sufficient time to cool before handling.
CAUTION: The memory modules are hot to the touch for some time after the system has been powered down. Allow time for the memory modules to cool before handling them. Handle the memory modules by the card edges and avoid touching the components.
NOTICE: If you are removing two hard drive, label them so you can replace them in their original locations.
3Remove the hard drives. See "Removing a Hard Drive" on page 90.
4Disconnect the control panel cable from the system board. See Figure
5If applicable, remove the daughter card See "Removing a Daughter Card" on page 83.
6Remove the memory modules and memory module blanks. See "Removing Memory Modules" on page 82.
7Remove the processor(s). See "Removing a Processor" on page 84.
8Remove the five Phillips screws and three hexagonal screws securing the system board to the server module chassis.
9Remove the curved chipset cooling shroud near the memory module sockets.
10Lift the system board out of the chassis.
