If your computer has a video card that supports 24-bit color, the image is displayed in full color (16.8 million colors) on your monitor. If your video card supports only 8-bit color, the image is displayed in 256 dithered colors. If you are using a black-and-white system, the image displays in black-and-white. Regardless of the monitor you use, the quality of the scan (in 24-bit color) is not affected. In all cases the best possible image supported by your hardware is displayed on your monitor.
